Click here to book a hotel in Aix en Provence Remember: chefs can change and restaurants can rise, fall or even close down altogether. For this reason we have noted at the bottom of each review the date(s) when we dined there. Check back soon for new additions. And bon appétit -or, as the locals say, "bon app"!
The place Ramus is one of those adorable hidden squares of the Old Town of Aix. It's tucked down an alleyway easy to miss, though it's just steps from the bustle of the Cours Mirabeau.
Les Vieilles Canailles made its reputation just after opening when its chef was named in 2016 by Gault & Millau as a Young Talent, an award given to only a few chefs a year.
With its line-up of traditional French and provençal cuisine at unbeatable prices, the cosy little Le Bistrot is another great dining bargain in the Old Town of Aix en Provence.
One of the hottest restaurants in Aix is Vintrépide, a tiny two-man operation right on the north-east edge of the Old Town where you'll find some of the best cuisine in the city.
Some of the best dining bargains in Aix are to be found behind modest, even scruffy facades in the dark, narrow, winding back-streets of the Old Town and L'Alcôve is a prime example.
Dozens of restaurants of every type and quality line the Forum des Cardeurs, a large open square on the edge of the Old Town. Le Poivre d'Âne looks much like its neighbours. But this is not another fly-by-night tourist trap.
This unassuming neighbourhood restaurant in the Old Town of Aix en Provence is easy to miss, but Le Comté d'Aix offers fantastic value in a city where dining out can be ruinous. |
