FACILITIES AT TOULON-HYÈRES AIRPORT
Occasionally also known as Le Palyvestre, Toulon-Hyères (IATA airport code TLN) was set up as a naval airbase in 1925 and opened its doors to civil aviation in 1967.
Like others, Toulon airport has been hit by the decline in travel and passenger numbers have dwindled steadily over the last decade. Its amenities currently seem on the generous side for the volume of traffic, which is low outside the main tourist season.
On the upside, this makes travelling through the airport a relatively relaxed experience. It has one terminal and two runways and remains compact and user-friendly, though a little tricky to get to by public transport (see below).
The airport's long- and short-stay car-parks offer over 700 spaces, including an area for disabled drivers (the airport as a whole has good handicapped access with plenty of ramps and lifts).
There's also a small covered space for motor cycles and other two-wheeled vehicles.
The short-term car-park (P1) includes a free 15 minute "kiss and ride" (dépose minute) facility. If you overstay this limit, you can pay at the exit to the car-park by bank card, or at machines in the departures and arrivals lounges by cash or card.
The long-term car-park (P2) has to be reserved online (there is a computer at the airport where you can do this on arrival if you haven't organised it in advance). Season tickets are also available.
Tel: (+33) 4 94 00 83 37. Website for the car-parks at Toulon-Hyères airport.
The arrivals lounge is on the lower level and the departures lounge on the upper one. The lower level has an information point and there are ticket desks for Air France and for some of the low-cost airlines. Air France has self-service check-in kiosks.
By the main entrance, the departures lounge boasts a little snack bar, Trib's, with an outdoor terrace. Inside, sockets are available to recharge your phone and computer.
Also on the upper level is a rather kitsch "provençal village", pictured, with a small souvenir shop / newsagent where you can buy pre-paid wi-fi and a mobile / cell phone card (une carte SIM or, sometimes, une puce).
Air-side, after passing through passport and security control, you will find the inevitable duty-free shop and another snack bar.
In the arrivals lounge are a cash dispenser (ATM), a post box, first aid station and lost property office, among other services.
The airport offers free wi-fi and, in a bid to boost traffic from business travellers, two meeting rooms that can be booked for seminars. Tel: (+33) 4 94 00 84 07.

At the opposite extreme of the spectrum, if a taxi or bus is not around or if you are on a very tight budget, it is entirely feasible to walk from the airport to the beaches and campsites of Hyères (and some of the city's best bars).
The roads are flat and well-marked with dedicated pedestrian and bike paths. It takes about half an hour on foot.
