With its abundant campsites and well-kept roads, France as a whole and Provence in particular are ideally equipped for touring holidays. This is a guide to exploring the region in a Type 2 Volkswagen camper van.
Many of the loveliest spots in Provence aren't accessible by public transport and unless you take a taxi - or explore the region by bicycle - you may well end up behind the wheel of a car.
You may be a hurry to drive south. But perhaps you prefer to take your time and see some magnificent sights along the way. If so, this is the best route to Provence from Northern Europe.
Provence can be reached from the French Channel Ports or the Belgian border in around ten hours' driving time if you use autoroutes (motorways) the whole way.
